Nice to finally be labeled as "Smart".

I knew there was a problem as a child. I used the "can you give me your opinion" ruse many times. I hated English classes because I wasn't "creative".

Now I am an instructor. I work with "lower" students. I have to stand in front of the class, with a presentation behind me and lecture. I have now been able to admit to my students that I have a problem. Many of them are very receptive to my "problem". They see that I'm not stupid, I, for a few moments, can't read. Someone will tell me the word, and I can move on with my lecture.

Dyslexia had also given me patience with slower students as well. I have shown them some of my tricks to find them improving in their education. One former students tells me that her nephew was on the road toward gangs when she met me. With some of the tricks that are in this book in her "hand", her nephew is now sitting in the front of the class, no longer interested in gangs, and is educationally very successful. The school is now considering adopting more help for others.

If nothing else, this book will help those outside the dyslexia box to see inside, and maybe help another person form being tortured like the author, myself and others.

Good read, better upside down and in a mirror. yes, I can,and I prove it to my students every day. Try it sometime.

False Information

As our son struggled with reading we searched for information and this was actually on a recommended reading list from school. The first chapters led us to be upbeat and positive. The author tries to convey their struggle with reading and how they improved. But then you get into the techniques that basically lead you to using clay to make letters and the author says this will teach students with dyslexic to read in basically a matter of days. This is fake and does not work. It is not supported by doctors or authors.
