Shadows and Light: Tir Alainn Trilogy, Book 2 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.8 4.8 out of 5 stars 719 ratings

National best-selling author Anne Bishop’s novels have been hailed as “genuine gems” (SF Site) and “lavishly sensual” (Library Journal).

In her highly anticipated second book in the Tir Alainn Trilogy, she weaves a dazzling tale of romance, high adventure, and thrilling fantasy.

Ever since the slaughter of the witches, the Fae—who should be shielding their long-lost cousins from danger—have ignored the needs of the rest of the world. And shadows are again gathering in the eastern villages—dark, potent shadows that threaten the lives of every witch, woman, and Fae. Only three Fae can stand against the growing madness and help prevent more bloodshed—the Bard, the Muse, and the Gatherer of Souls. Aiden, the Bard, knows how desperately the world depends upon the Fae’s protection. But the Fae refuse to heed his warnings about the wickedness lurking amid the trees.

Now Aiden and his one true love—Lyrra, the Muse—must embark on a perilous journey to find the one Fae who can convince the rest to leave their secure perches to save the witches and mortals. Because if the Fae don’t act soon, no one will survive….

The story continues to be alluring and the characters are wonderful (except for the evil ones, who are exceptionally evil). Ready to start the third book of the trilogy!

I started reading Anne Bishop when a friend of mine loaned me her Black Jewels books and immediately knew this was an author I wanted to keep track of and have yet to find a book from her that I didn't like and this book cements that feel.

I am usually pretty leery about reading trilogies or series from authors, I find that with trilogies by the time you get to the second book you can see the story starting to get rushed and by the third book it's flown by so fast you have no idea what you just read but not so with this series.

Shadows and Light picks up right where Pillars of the World left off (as I said in my review of the third book you really do need to read these books in order, hence me stressing the name of the first book :-)) although from another characters view no break in the story just a different point of view. I found myself really empathizing with the characters of the story more than I did in the first book.

Boy, never realized how hard it is to write a review of a book without any spoilers at all but hopefully I have talked some of you readers out there to check out the series and see for yourself!

This book makes my stomach churn in a good way. If you want a fantasy book with all The Handmaid's Tale vibes, this series is for you.
This starts off right from the end of the previous book. The Barons are meeting to decide the fate of women, the Bard and the Muse are trying to save the witches and convince the Fae of the dangers of the Black Coats, and the Fae in the West are becoming aware of the peril headed their way. Every character is compelling, and I love how Ms. Bishop alternates between their stories, building the tension in each arc.
While the Black Coats evoke early Puritans or Inquisitors, they bring their own evil here in the intense focus on women. I read this series a long time ago, but I still tense over their actions and the parallels to today's society, including women's circumcision. I can't wait to read the conclusion.

The series started a bit slow, but it picked up steam to the point where I could not put it down. Definitely entertaining!

I have read pretty much everything available from Anne Bishop so I was so grateful this trilogy was released or reprinted or whatever happened to make it available. This book was a great read, balancing several main characters, but still developing each one and keeping the plot moving at a good pace. I loved the story and was sad to see the trilogy end.

I love fairy tales, always have, always will. Ms. Bishop is a great storyteller. The Fae have forgotten their father's face, to paraphrase from another great storyteller.

Its a awesome high fantasy book about the fae and witches. How people allow hatred to erase others. And the will to continue on

5.0 out of 5 stars Magically powerful storytelling

This tale is the second of three, and needs to be read in sequence. The tale is told through three main threads , but is multi dimensional in the way strong and interesting characters flow in and out of the threads. The pace of the story never lags. Thoroughly recommended to fantasy lovers, you'll find yourself smiling through the tears.

Good characters and storyline if a little dark! On the third book currently and am now thoroughly gripped. There is the addition of some good new characters at this stage too. One to recommend!
