This was the best of the three I've read, but I after Harper has been so strong during the book, I just cringed when she fainted at the end. (Maybe collapse with exhaustion and pain.) There is a change of direction hinted in the previous book. Good story.

The story and mystery is great, but the masterpieces of Charlaine Harris are the well crafted personalities. From word choice to quirks to motivation, her characters instantly click. That's why she's one of my favorite authors.

It's a fascinating way to describe the after effects of a lightning strike. It's even more fascinating -- and more than a little frightening -- to read about serial killers while knowing that such horrors exist.
