Publisher Description

The New York Times bestseller that is an inspiring "story of hope" (People) for parents of autistic children

One morning Jenny McCarthy was having a cup of coffee when she sensed something was wrong. She ran into her two-year-old son Evan's room and found him having a seizure. Doctor after doctor misdiagnosed Evan until, after many harrowing, life-threatening episodes, one good doctor discovered that Evan is autistic.

With a foreword from Dr. David Feinberg, medical director of the Resnick Neuro-psychiatric Hospital at UCLA, and an introduction by Jerry J. Kartzinel, a top pediatric autism specialist, Louder Than Words follows Jenny as she discovered an intense combination of behavioral therapy, diet, and supplements that became the key to saving Evan from autism. Her story sheds much-needed light on autism through her own heartbreak, struggle, and ultimately hopeful example of how a parent can shape a child's life and happiness.

Special

My son has been diagnosed with a genetic disorder called digeorge syndrome (a rare form caused by a chromosome 10 deletion). My parents pointed out his delays, but he was my special baby. Once diagnosed at age two, my friends and other family members let out a sigh of relief. They were glad they didn't have to be the one to break the news. He flaps his arms, stares at fans, and has little spoken language (now age 4). No friends or family can relate. It is hard to talk about my fears and worries with them. This book allowed me to shed a tear and feel like I am not completely alone. Love your children no matter what. Help your Evan become the best "Evan" they can be. Jenny M. You have come a long way since your days with that super hot 90's cohost on Singled Out!

A real perspective

This book may not be based on science; but parents, moms dont always need science. Moms of typical or autistic children will gain hope from Jenny! Hope to seek out help for your child (should they need it) For those that do not need help they'll gain insight on a growing problem for our children. It was a great read. It was raw and honest.

Eye opening

I’ve been struggling getting my son the diagnosis he needs to get the help I really think would make the biggest impacted and this story made me feel less alone. So sorry for everything they went through but happy for the miracle Evan is!
