About the author

Richelle Mead is an international bestselling author of over twenty-five books for both adults and teens. Her Georgina Kincaid and Dark Swan series take a witty but edgy look at the paranormal while her sci-fi Age of X series shows us a future with no religion. Over on the young adult side, Richelle has written the much-acclaimed Vampire Academy series and its spin-off, Bloodlines, about a secret society keeping the vampire world hidden from humans. Her latest project, The Glittering Court, takes place in a fantasy world inspired by colonial America, following the adventures of three impoverished girls trained up to be "ladies" who can make advantageous marriages in a dangerous new world across the sea.
Richelle's books have been on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists and received honors from the American Library Association. Her books have been translated into over two dozen languages, as well as adapted into graphic novels. In 2014, Vampire Academy was made into a feature film. A lifelong reader, Richelle loves mythology and wacky humor. When not writing, she can be found spending time with her family, buying dresses, and watching bad reality TV. I'm a die-hard fan of Richelle Mead's writing. Whether it's her YA books or her adult series (if you haven't read them yet you MUST!) and the Vampire Academy series will forever be one of my favorite series EVER! When I found out that there would be a Bloodlines series centered around Sydney Sage, I wasn't sure if it was something I wanted to read. But when I found out one of the main characters would be Adrian Ivashkov, it was a no brainer. I knew it was a must! I admit that it did take some adjusting to get used to Sydney. Not that there was anything wrong with her but after reading 6 books from Rose's POV, Sydney seemed a little bit...boring at first. But the more I read the more I realized how complex Sydney's character is and I wanted to read more about her. I wasn't too sure of the chemistry between Adrian and Sydney during Bloodlines, but after reading The Golden Lily I was a loyal believer. In Bloodlines, their friendship grew. In The Golden Lily, their chemistry grew and Adrian pursued her from a distance. He kept finding ways to spend time with her and then he finally let her know his feelings in the end. In The Indigo Spell, Adrian is determined to prove that they belong together and he goes after her with a vengeance. Poor Sydney never stood a chance.
After his shocking declaration of love, things between Adrian and Sydney have been awkward. But after spending time after they both attend a vampire wedding, their friendship rekindles. But this time, Adrian wants to be more than friends with Sydney. Not only does Sydney have to deal with fighting her feelings for Adrian and not letting the Alchemists find out about them, she also has to worry about a witch going around sucking other girl's powers. Sydney could be the key to stop her, or she can end up her next victim. On top of that, she has to worry about the Warriors of Light and their possible connection to the Alchemists. She is convinced Marcus Finch has the answers and she sets of to find him. But will Marcus be the answer Sydney is looking for, or will he just bring more problems her way?
The Bloodlines series just keeps getting better and better and The Indigo Spell is by far my favorite book. I hate to admit that I liked it more than most Vampire Academy books *runs from the angry fans*. Well except for Shadow Kiss because that books is just...no words. As much as I loved the Vampire Academy books, I felt that the romance was a little lacking. Yes Rose and Dimitri are one of the most epic couples ever, but we still don't get to read about that many romantic moments between them. Richelle Mead definitely kicks up the romance and hotness factor in this book. In fact, I was surprised by how many swoony scenes Sydney and Adrian shared. Oh and the dream scenes were back! Ah, so many Sydrian Feels throughout this entire book! Don't believe me?
My nails dug into his back, and he trailed his lips down the edge of my chin, down the center of my neck. He kept going until he reached the bottom of the dress's V-neck. I let out a small gasp, and he kissed all around the neckline, just enough to tease.
The Indigo Spell is another amazing book for all you Richelle Mead fans. For those of you who haven't read a book by her yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!? I was terrified to read this book because Richelle's 3rd books in her series always end in such WTF cliffhangers (Shadow Kiss, Succubus Dreams, Iron Crowned). I didn't know what crazy thing to expect. Luckily, the end is not a huge cliffhanger like those books but it will leave you desperately wanting to get your hands on The Fiery Heart. Plus, we will finally have Adrian POV's! Sydney and Adrian go through so much character growth in this book and I'm dying to read more about them! And I want Eddie and Jill to finally admit their feelings to each other. Romance, suspense, amazing characters, plot twist and plenty of classic Adrian moments; The Indigo Spell is a fast-paced page turner that will satisfy all Bloodlines and Adrian fans. Get ready for some serious Sydrian Feels!
I also want to add that I want an AYE shirt! Richelle Mead, where can I buy one? I want to be an honorary member of the AYE club!
5 out of 5 stars! If I had a higher rating than this I would give it to this book!
Some of my favorite non-spoiler quotes from The Indigo Spell:
-"The Alchemists' beliefs are my beliefs," I say quickly.
She arched an eyebrow. "Are they? I would hope your beliefs would be your beliefs."
I'd never thought about it that way before, but I suddenly hoped desperately that her words were true.
-He waved dismissively. "Keep it. I've got others."
"What am I supposed to do with a wool coat?" I asked. "Especially here in Palm Springs?"
"Sleep with it," he suggested. "Think of me."
-So many details came into focus. The shape of his lips, the line of his neck. "I'm not dangerous," I breathed.
He brought his face toward mine. "You are to me."
And somehow, against all reason, we were kissing. I closed my eyes, and the world around me faded.
-"But when I touch you, your aura...it smolders. The colors deepen, it burns more intensely, the purple increases. Why? Why, Sydney?" He used that hand to pull me closer. "Why do you react that way if I don't mean anything to you?" There was a desperation in his voice, and it was legitimate.
- Adrian Ivashkov wasn't easy to surprise, but I surprised him then when I brought his mouth toward mine. I kissed him, and for a moment, he was too stunned to respond. That lasted for, oh, about a second. Then the intensity I'd come to know so well in him returned. He pushed me backward, lifting me so that I sat at the table. The tablecloth bunched up, knocking over some of the glasses. I heard what sounded like a china plate crash against the floor.

Nereyda @Mostly YA Book Obsessed
Every time I get to the end of one of these books, so far at least, I'm left sitting here thanking the book gods that I waited to have each one in my hand so that I could do a binge read. I mean, they aren't huge cliffhangers but it's just enough to where I know that the waiting would have driven me crazy. I'm becoming obsessed and if I'm not sleeping or eating my nose is stuck in which ever book I'm reading at the moment. Sometimes I even forget to do both of those! I'm hooked and I'm torn between wanting to be able to find a way to read them even faster and trying to slow down and just savor them.
--"Don't look so panicked," Rose said, eyes shining. "It was nice seeing a human and a Moroi look like they belong together."
I had assumed before I finally started this series that everything would come down to all the Sydrian feels for me. Nothing else would matter and all I'd want was to get to that next moment, next kiss, next whatever. The reality has become that, while I do love those moments between Sydney and Adrian, I'm just as drawn in to everything else that's going on within the story, and there's a lot. With the VA books we had to deal with Moroi, Strigoi, dhampir and the Alchemists. With this series you have all of those things plus you add secrets and lies, magic and witches, an ancient society that goes back nearly as far as the Alchemists and rebellions and spies everywhere you turn. The excitement and danger seems to never end.
--It brought back all my ingrained fears about the wrongness of magic.
The thing that I enjoyed the most with The Indigo Spell was how much it focused on the magical aspect of this world. I was fascinated by it. Obviously there's been magic throughout both of these series but the focus there has been on vampire magic. With the magic in this book we also get to explore the world of spells and witches. And of course Sydney's struggle with staying true to everything she's been taught to believe and the pull of the magic world. I'm really enjoying how it's all being handled and I especially like that it is a struggle with her. That everything is a struggle with her really. These are things her people have been drilled for centuries to believe in and if she were to have just rolled over and accepted everything easy I think I would've been bored.
--"I'm done with the pouting," he said. "Done with being moody―well, I mean, I'm always a little moody. That's what Adrian Ivashkov's all about."
Adrian continues to blow me away every time he's on the page. He doesn't seem to do what I expect him to do anymore. I fell so hard for the Adrian of the past. The one full of vices and snark. The guy who attempted to live up to everyone's expectations of him, and by that I mean all the negative ones. There was just something about Adrian that I found completely irresistible. Yet here he is in Bloodlines flipping every thought and feeling I had for him upside down, in all the best ways and I can't believe he's the same guy and yet I'm also not surprised. I love seeing this side of him. The passionate, loyal, ambitious and reliable side. I mean he's shown signs of some of those things before but I love that now...he has a purpose.
--But he made no demands on me, not like the Alchemists or Marcus. Even Jill and Angeline tended to preface their requests with, "You have to..."
Something that really didn't dawn on me until this book was the tremendous amount of pressure Sydney is under. I mean, I knew it was there coming at her from so many different angles, but I suppose that like a lot of the people in her life I just sort of took for granted that Sydney would just handle everything. In Indigo Spell it really hit me just how crazy it must be to be Sydney with all the conflict and issues with loyalty and people pulling at her from all sides. Making demands on her time and in some ways using her to their own advantage. I always found her affinity for order and rules and logic to be very endearing. After finishing this book though I almost see how with every direction she's being pulled in, with magic, loyalty, friendship, family and beliefs, that it's kind of a necessity to be able to compartmentalize everything to stay sane. I have so much more respect for her at this point.
--I went upstairs, a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach.
Though I should, in a small way, be excited with how this book ended, it actually filled me with quite a bit of dread. It's like every time we take a baby step forward in this book something jumps in front of us and we have to take a huge leap back. Everything was in such a blissful state right there in the end until the final events of the book threw cold water in my face and gave me a hard dose of reality. I'm both dreading and excited to start The Fiery Heart and see where this goes. I suppose this has been enough procrastinating now, so...
*Takes a deep breath...and jumps in*
