Not as Good as it Could Be
Lee Child/Jack Reacher are always good, and this story is worthy. But the reader, Johnathan McClain, is a dry monotone. Declarative sentences are of similar inflection. One word is read into the next with no tonal variance made for context—the end of a chapter reads right into the next chapter without variance. More than once I’ve stopped my mind from listening and said, “What?” as the subject had changed without my notice…. Then I realized we’d ended a chapter and begun another, as if it were just one paragraph after another. (I rest my face on my hands and exhale, weary.)
Just read the first book
The best thing about this author, is displayed in the work, he put into his first book, it was a lot more methodically laid out and refined. Letter books, do not compare. If his first book is a 4.5 star, his second book would be a 3.5, this book is an even three stars. I could’ve done without as much backstory on useless characters, and more story pertaining to action.
