Messum gives us an interesting take on a concept, which could've bombed (in less capable hands)... Before he even places any characters in risk (so to speak), he takes the time to let us know who these people ARE (in the hope of getting us to CARE about what actually happens to them). And more often than not, it works : the protagonists aren't exactly "good guys", but there's a stark contrast between them & those who we are supposed to view as the "bad guys". There's are layers to this storyline, and I found it worthy of peeling them back, to see what was beneath !!
