About this ebook

Meet the men of Oxford magazine! In the first captivating spin-off of Lauren Layne’s Sex, Love & Stiletto series, a not-so-friendly battle of the sexes turns into a scorching office romance.

Hotshot sports editor Cole Sharpe has been freelancing for Oxford for years, so when he hears about a staff position opening up, he figures he’s got the inside track. Then his boss drops a bombshell: Cole has competition. Female competition, in the form of a fresh-faced tomboy who can hang with the dudes—and write circles around them, too. Cole usually likes his women flirty and curvy, but he takes a special interest in his skinny, sassy rival, if only to keep an eye on her. And soon, he can’t take his eyes off her.

Penelope Pope knows all too well that she comes off as just one of the guys. Since she’s learned that wanting more usually leads to disappointment, Penelope’s resigned to sitting on the sidelines when it comes to love. So why does Cole make her want to get back in the game? The man is as arrogant as he is handsome. He probably sees her as nothing more than a barrier to his dream job. But when an unexpected kiss turns into a night of irresistible passion, Penelope has to figure out whether they’re just fooling around—or starting something real.

This is another feel good book by Ms. Layne. Cole, a freelance sports writer, is trying to get a permanent job with the magazine, Oxford. Unfortunately he has one problem. Someone else is out for what he considers “his job”. While at a Yankee’s game, Cole is surprised to find himself fascinated with a brunette writing in a notebook. But as he says there is nothing really special about her. Penelope is described as slim to point of being skinny, no chest to speak of, no definition of her waist, and no curves. She is more of a tom-boy or one of the guys. As she said she is more of a friend than a girlfriend. Once Cole finds out Penelope is in the running for his job, he is not happy. But he realizes she knows her sports. Penelope describes Cole as charming and good-looking. But he is also good guy. When Penelope comes in for her interview, she has a mishap with a cup of coffee. Cole could have let her go into her interview like that but he helped her out. They are both hired for the job as co-editors. They soon become fast friends. But they want more. They decide to act on their attraction but make sure they both promise not to fall in love with each. Yea, that didn’t work out so well. This author has a knack of making her characters believable and fun. She also brings in characters from her other books, which I like. Her books flow easily, easy to read and before you know it you are almost done. Look forward to additional books by this author.

Had the pleasure of reading The Trouble with Love not too long ago. What I discovered was that Ms. Layne's female characters are smart, witty and not the average breed. She creates women who exude confidence but are dealing with the same issues every female does. Loneliness, struggling to blend in, body image and matters of the heart. Those are just a few things that Penelope struggles with in Irresistibly Yours. Cole sees Penelope as the competition, until he gets to know the girl behind the bravado. Irresistibly Yours is for every individual that wants to fit in. The message of this story is "be yourself and the rest will fall into place." I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Second story and loving this author.

I think I say this every time I read a Lauren Layne book but I can't help myself. I. Loved. This. Book!! Cole was always one of my favorite secondary characters in the Sex, Love, & Stiletto series and I was doing a happy dance when I saw he got his own story. Pairing him up with a character like Penelope was perfection. They are both quick witted, laid back, and full of life. This book is a fun, sexy read that I simply could not put down. Although I was sad when it ended, it is Cole after all, I'm hoping we see these two in future books. I for one can't wait! I highly recommend this book.

About the author

Lauren Layne is a New York Times bestselling author of contemporary romance novels. Prior to becoming a writer, she worked in e-commerce and Web marketing. In 2011 Lauren and her husband moved from Seattle to New York City, where she decided to pursue a full-time writing career. It took six months to get her first book deal (despite Lauren’s ardent assurances to her husband that it would take only three). Since then, she’s gone on to publish ten books, including those in the bestselling Sex, Love & Stiletto series, with more stories always in the works. Lauren currently lives in Chicago with her husband and their spoiled Pomeranian. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her at happy hour, running at a doggedly slow pace, or trying to straighten her naturally curly hair.
