Publisher Description
From Maeve Binchy’s earliest writings to the most recent, her work is filled with wisdom and common sense and also a sharp, often witty voice that is insightful and reaches out to her readers around the world and of all ages. Whether it is one of her best-selling novels or a short story, Maeve shows us that times may have changed, but people often remain the same: they fall in love, sometimes unsuitably; they have hopes and dreams; they have deep, long-standing friends whose secrets are shared; they go on holidays and celebrate new jobs . . .
A Few of the Girls is a glorious collection of the very best of her short story writing, stories that were written over the decades—some published in magazines, others for friends as gifts, many for charity benefits. The stories are all filled with the signature warmth and humor that have always been an essential part of Maeve’s appeal.
APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
Reading Maeve Binchy’s A Few of the Girls is like taking a peek into the kitchens and living rooms of everyday people in Irish towns and cities. Each short story feels personal and poignant, bringing to life relationships between parents and children, lovers, and friends. We found plenty to relate to in these pages, like the story “Falling Apart,” which perfectly captured that familiar, melancholy feeling of growing apart from a lifelong friend. With clear and concise prose, Binchy warmly captures exciting, uncertain, and sometimes lonely moments in her characters’ lives.
Customer Reviews
Lovely read
Great book about the stages of life written by an author who understands people well.
A Few of the Girls
It tries to be succinct and clever but is just plain trying to read. A waste of time and money.
Copy cat in my eyes
If you look at the cover, title style, and topic.... This screams Mitch Albom....not impressed.....
