About this ebook

The fierce, irreverent novel of aspiration and rebellion that is both a cornerstone of Australian literature and a feminist classic

Miles Franklin began the candid, passionate, and contrary My Brilliant Career when she was only sixteen, intending it to be the Australian answer to Jane Eyre. But the book she produced-a thinly veiled autobiographical novel about a young girl hungering for life and love in the outback-so scandalized her country upon its appearance in 1901 that she insisted it not be published again until ten years after her death.

overall it is a good book. i gave it one star because i personally hated it. Sybylla had every right to act the way she did in the book but seriously, i hate how everyone thinks if you are pretty you are dumb, and cold hearted. and that if your 'ugly' you are all passionate, smart, courageous sybylla. I used to think like that. i would have admired sybylla except for that fact that i turned from an ugly duckling to a pretty duckling and guess freaking what, turns out 'ugly' people and AND 'pretty' people can be mean and horrible. The truth is, if you THINK you are ugly, or people TELL you that you are, its probably because you aren't brave enough to stick up to all the social medias idea of 'pretty'. Everyone is beautiful and if you hold your head high, give a little effort into making yourself look nice, i swear people will start to believe you are 'pretty'. people who believe they are 'ugly', feel it so deeply that its projected from them to everyone else. Ive seen potentially 'ugly' people who are confident in themselves give off an aura or 'pretty'. sorry for going off track, but no im not one of those people who believe beauty is only on the outside, its on the inside too. i guess im just lucky im pretty, smart, compassionate and deep. i think i should right a book called 'my brilliant theories' feminists will love this book. too bad im not one. romance all the way! (and not the unbelieveble romance, romance is real when you make it real) think about it. ps, sorry for mistakes and how i rushed it. i am just very passionate and egotistical about my view on this.
