Publisher Description

In The New Rules of Lifting for Women, authors Lou Schuler, Cassandra Forsythe and Alwyn Cosgrove present a comprehensive strength, conditioning and nutrition plan destined to revolutionize the way women work out. All the latest studies prove that strength training, not aerobics, provides the key to losing fat and building a fit, strong body. This book refutes the misconception that women will "bulk up" if they lift heavy weights. Nonsense! It's tough enough for men to pack on muscle, and they have much more of the hormone necessary to build muscle: natural testosterone. Muscles need to be strengthened to achieve a lean, healthy look. Properly conditioned muscles increase metabolism and promote weight loss -- it's that simple. The program demands that women put down the "Barbie" weights, step away from the treadmill and begin a strength and conditioning regime for the natural athlete in every woman. The New Rules of Lifting for Women will change the way women see fitness, nutrition and their own bodies.

Buy the paper version

This book is great but I highly recommend that you get the paper version. Unfortunately, there are too many cross-references to other pages in the book. No matter the combo of font and size, I couldn't get the pages aligned. Save yourself the headache and confusion and buy this one on paper.

Crossfit?

Good book. The idea behind it is the same as cross fit training. As a former crossfiter I can't say that I really learned as much as I was hoping from the book.

I want to love this.... But...

As a former athlete who had kids and let herself go I was looking for some guidance to get back in the gym. As a former athlete I am not, nor do I want to be, a cardio bunny. I want to train for strength - lift weights, do a bit of cardio - and k ow that the rest of the pieces will fall into place. I didn't think that this would be a fat shaming book.... But I am barely getting to the meat of the content and here we are... With the author saying that a 120 lb woman "let herself go".... To be clear he also mentions a man's weight in the same aspect... But IDK... THIS book is supposed to be for WOMEN. UGH. Going to try to push my way (weigh) through in hopes of learning something - but disappointed start....
