Although the book lacks the beautiful language that makes a novel great, this book is an extremely important one. Ms. Hunter tells her family's story in a straightforward, matter of fact fashion, which makes abundantly clear just how lucky they were to survive Hitler's maniacal quest to exterminate the Jewish race. This story cannot be told enough times. The suffering visited upon so many families is brilliantly captured in the story of Ms. Hunter's family. Her book should be mandatory reading for all high school students and required reading for any serious adult.

I loved this book. Moved me to tears several times. Definitely a must read!
About the author
When Georgia Hunter was fifteen years old, she learned that she came from a family of Holocaust survivors. We Were the Lucky Ones was born of her quest to uncover her family’s staggering history. Hunter’s website, georgiahunterauthor.com, offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the extensive research this project has entailed. She lives in Connecticut.
