About this audiobook

LaToya Williams lives in Montgomery, Alabama, and attends a mostly white high school. It seems as if her only friend is her older brother, Alex. Toya doesn’t know where she fits in, but after a run-in with another student, she wonders if life would be different if she were . . . different. And then a higher power answers her prayer: to be “anything but black.”

Toya is suddenly white, blond, and popular. Now what?

Randi Pink’s audacious fiction debut dares to explore a subject that will spark conversations about race, class, and gender.

This is my first audio book, and I LOVED IT!!! This book is not about race in my opinion, yet about a strong brother and sister relationship that is almost torn apart by a pray granted to Toya (The main character), by Jesus to make here white (or in her words anything but back). I think I really connected with the story because I have a very close relationship with MY younger brother (Plus I was born in Alabama; that helps too ^_^). This story put me on a emotional roll a coaster. In case you couldn't tell, Jesus is trying to teach Toya a lesson by turning her white. upon buying, I already new that Toya was suppose to learn a lesson; this is the sole reason why I bought it! I was all like "AWW, YEAH! it's goin' dooooooooooown!" So I was very happy that it met, no, not just met, but well exceeded my expectations with flying colors! The story gave little to no detail half the time about what the characters looked like, and what the enviorment was, looked, and felt like. Some might say it leaves room for imagination (well, at least it did for me ^_^). The writter painted a strange picture of Jesus Christ, were he doesn't seem to know all the answers, but in some lightings is, is still a loving God and saviour! But, at the end of the day, I had to tell my self that it is just a book, and is only the writers interpretation of Jesus. Because, Like his Father, he is all knowing, but the book makes it seem like Jesus doesn't have all the answers. Oh, well! still a good book! ^_^ To be honest it didn't really foucus on the race thing as much as I thought it would. If you are looking for a story where it focuses solely on racist steroetypes, then this is not the book for you. However, if you want a story that deals with the strong bound of family and the people you love the most, and how not to look over and take for granted the precious life God has given you, I say: THIS is your book!
