Although not a fan of the original I find this adaptation very enjoyable. While the plot doesn't necessarily turn the pages, the author's wit and grim humor, fitting the sea-monster theme perfectly, keeps me reading on. My favorite recurring joke is how characters are attracted to another by physical features denoting a strong swimmer. Another merit I find is how the tone of the narrator stays true to the original despite the comic scenes of tragedy weaved through the story.
