About this ebook

The New York Times bestselling comics series that was the inspiration for The Umbrella Academy on Netflix, now on Season 3!

In an inexplicable worldwide event, forty-three extraordinary children were spontaneously born to women who'd previously shown no signs of pregnancy. Millionaire inventor Reginald Hargreeves adopted seven of the children; when asked why, his only explanation was, "To save the world."

These seven children form the Umbrella Academy, a dysfunctional family of superheroes with bizarre powers. Their first adventure at the age of ten pits them against an erratic and deadly Eiffel Tower, piloted by the fearsome zombie-robot Gustave Eiffel. Nearly a decade later, the team disbands, but when Hargreeves unexpectedly dies, these disgruntled siblings reunite just in time to save the world once again.

• This volume collects the first six-issue series, as well as out-of-print short stories and an expanded sketchbook section featuring work by Gabriel Bá, James Jean, and Gerard Way.

• "Flawless…stylish, imaginative."—Newsarama

• Listed as one of the Top Ten Great Graphic Novels for Teens by the Young Adult Library Service Association (YALSA).

It takes less time to read all three of these than it takes to get through the first season of the Netflix show. The artwork is incredibly detailed, the characters and superpowers creative, and the plot takes unexpected turns. Having watched the Season 1 of the Netflix show first, I like the show better. However, it was more fun watching Season 2 after reading these. The storylines are a little different, but they are both interesting. Make sure whatever format you're reading it on, it's in color. It's also easier to read it on a tablet than a phone. I'm not into the weird romantic relationships--adopted siblings are still siblings. Very violent.

I first bought this comic not even realizing who Gerard Way was. Then (about 1/3 of the way into the comic) I fell from the tree. There was a moment I wanted to stop reading it because of my feelings about Gerard's music but I followed it through. The story is great; illustrations were amazing. I dont have a single gripe about it. 5 stars.

I enjoy twists on the super hero genre. This failed in every respect to be a credible story. Some emo read Watchmen and The Boys and thought they had a clever take, but instead if a plot, spewed out a bunch of half concepts. Terrible.
