So-so book with political artwork

So-so book with political artwork
The book itself is so-so. There are much better out there about perseverance and handling failure. The dino theme is cute, although the artwork is so busy that it is hard for a child to follow the story. My 4-year-old was totally lost. What I really did not appreciate were the pride flags in the background. They don't have any relationship with the story. They appear to simply be in the book to create positive associations between kids and the pride flag. Regardless of your views on this issue, it seems pretty sneaky to have politically charged images tucked away in a children's book for the purpose of exposure. Glad I borrowed this at the library and did not purchase it.

Everything is easy for Dinah, until one fateful day in a competition when things don't happen as she expects. There is disappointment (and disbelief) followed by perseverance and good sportsmanship. This is a great lesson for young kids that you won't always succeed but you can take the high road and deal with failure in a positive way.
