John Polidori (1795–1821), the poet Lord Byron’s physician; Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu (1814–1873), an Irish writer of Gothic tales and mystery novels;
Bram Stoker (1847–1912), author of the novel Dracula;
Guy de Maupassant (1850–1893), a Frenchman, considered one of the world’s greatest short story writers;
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859–1930), creator of super-sleuth Sherlock Holmes; E.F. Benson (1867–1940), best known for his Mapp and Lucia stories;
and one anonymous author
