Publisher Description

The blockbuster DC Icons series that began with Leigh Bardugo's Wonder Woman, Marie Lu's Batman, and Sarah J. Maas's Catwoman continues with the story of the world's first super hero--SUPERMAN--from award-winning and #1 New York Times bestselling author MATT DE LA PEÑA.

When the dawn breaks, a hero rises.

His power is beyond imagining.
Clark Kent has always been faster, stronger--better--than everyone around him. But he wasn't raised to show off, and drawing attention to himself could be dangerous. Plus, it's not like he's earned his powers . . . yet.
But power comes with a price.
Lately it's difficult to hold back and keep his heroics in the shadows. When Clark follows the sound of a girl crying, he comes across Gloria Alvarez and discovers a dark secret lurking in Smallville. Turns out, Clark's not the only one hiding something. Teaming up with his best friend, Lana Lang, he throws himself into the pursuit of the truth. What evil lies below the surface of his small town? And what will it cost Clark to learn about his past as he steps into the light to become the future Man of Steel? Because before he can save the world, he must save Smallville.

Read this book if you enjoy Leftist politics

The feeling I had while reading this book can only be described as combination of the taste of drinking orange juice after you brush your teeth and fingernails being dragged across a chalkboard. The characters were not well developed, Lana was basically Chloe from Smallville, the Lex character had some lead up and then no pay-off at the end, the left wing virtue signaling was on every other page and did not add anything to the story and basically every negative mid-America redneck stereotype that the author could think of was used. Has he even been to Kansas? I kept wanting to like this book, but I just couldn’t. I kept wanting it to get better, but it just didn’t. To paraphrase the principal in Billy Madison...what this author wrote is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in this rambling, incoherent, leftist writing was the book even close to anything that could be considered palatable to even a casual Superman fan. Everyone having read it is now dumber for doing so. Honestly, it was that bad.
