Elizabeth Berg’s books are like a cup of hot chocolate under a cozy blanket. Set in the small town of Mason, Missouri, The Confession Club follows a group of middle-aged girlfriends who meet for supper every third Sunday armed with a dish to pass around and an embarrassing secret to share. It’s hard not to fall in love with Berg’s characters and the story’s salty wit and everybody-makes-mistakes attitude. The author’s fans will also enjoy reconnecting with Maddy and Iris, who appear in The Story of Arthur Truluv and Night of Miracles, respectively. Working through their shame and discomfort with a bit of laughter and a few tears, the members of the Confession Club learn a great deal about themselves and the meaning of friendship and trust. The Confession Club
I like the development of the characters and the concept of their unusual club. It is unusual for friends to have such unconditional acceptance, but it was so hopeful to read.
